The Church of England's Diocese of Portsmouth covers 133 parishes in south-east Hampshire and the Isle of Wight - from Botley in the west to Emsworth in the east, and stretching to Blackmoor and Whitehill in the north. Our churches embrace a range of styles of worship, from traditional services with an organ and a choir, to guitar-based worship groups, to creative prayer stations. They're also engaged in all sorts of community projects, ranging from toddler groups to lunch clubs for the elderly, and from drop-in groups for asylum seekers to Foodbanks for the hungry. Our bishop is the Rt Rev Jonathan Frost, the tenth Bishop of Portsmouth, who was installed in our cathedral in March 2022.
Taize trip June 2024
Students from two church schools on the Isle of Wight accompanied Bishop Jonathan to the Taizé Community in France, where they had a chance to experience worship, prayer, discussion and life in a Christian community. Our cathedral is hosting hundreds of clay sculptures made by Year 6 pupils who are attending Leavers’ Services. Ordination of priests 2024

The Bishop of Portsmouth ordained six candidates as priests in our cathedral in June 2024. He laid hands on each of them and asked for God's Spirit to equip them for this new role. Each of the candidates was also anointed with oil on their head and hands to symbolise their new sacramental and preaching ministry. Worshippers from churches across the Havant area joined forces to stage a Passion Play over the Easter weekend on the streets. Hundreds of shoppers and passers-by watched the story of Jesus's arrest, trial, crucifixion and resurrection outside St Faith's Church, Havant. Hello, EH. Thanks for the comment. This video actually dates from 2013, so the figures have moved on somewhat. But I understand the principle that you are raising. It's certainly worth having a conversation with your archdeacon about this, if you haven't already.
Pity not so much effort is being made to fill other vacancies in the diocese.

Wow ....what a great video. My wife and I went to college in Portsmouth back in the 1970's. I was a member of St. Cuthbert's Church, Copnor, Portsmouth for 4 years and really enjoyed my time there. Now I'm Vicar of Emmanuel Church, Rapidan, VA and after 35 years of ordained ministry my next challenge (in a few years) will be retirement.
Thanks for the comment & I'm sorry you found it difficult to understand his accent. I'm afraid there's not much we can do about this now. This was recorded more than a year ago and I'm not sure we even have the original footage to be able to tinker with the audio. Sorry!
